Are mobile contactless payments the go-to payment solution of the future? The industry seems to think so and consumers are apparently rather happy with how convenient apps like Samsung Pay are. While the United Kingdom is still waiting for Samsung to bring its mobile payment service to Great Britain, Android Pay, Barclays’ Contactless Mobile and Vodafone Wallet have been relatively successful among consumers in this island country. Due to that, it’s not surprising that these services are constantly getting updated with new features in order to improve user retention and attract more customers. In fact, a rather major update has just hit the aforementioned Vodafone Wallet.
As of today, Vodafone’s contactless payment solution offers PayPal support. In other words, if you happen to have a PayPal balance that you don’t want to withdraw to your debit card for whatever reason, you can now use it to pay for goods and services directly through Vodafone Wallet. Of course, the same app limitations still apply so you’ll need a phone with an NFC adapter and an accompanying terminal in order to take advantage of this functionality. The new PayPal integration also plays nicely with Vodafone’s NFC-enabled SIM cards which can be used to make payments of up to £30 even when your phone has already shut down due to not having enough battery power left. In case you want to make more expensive purchases, that’s possible by choosing a Vodafone Wallet PIN.
In order to connect your PayPal account to the Vodafone Wallet app, simply open Vodafone’s contactless payment solution, navigate to the “Add Card” menu and scroll down until you see the option to link PayPal funds to your app. Tap the option, input your PayPal email address and password and you’re good to go. In case you can’t find the PayPal option in the menu, make sure your Vodafone Wallet app has been updated to version 4.4.20 and that it has all of the necessary permissions. While this service is only available to Vodafone UK customers, they can use it to make contactless payments on any NFC terminal in the world.
