The South Korean mobile developer Gamevil won the hearts of both critics and gamers alike when it launched the third-person shooter Afterpulse in late 2015. Originally released as an iOS exclusive, this action-packed mobile game has now finally found its way to Android, as well. Sort of. Afterpulse is currently available in only 14 countries as a part of the game’s limited open beta. More specifically, the game can be downloaded in Australia, Canada, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Thailand, Turkey, and Vietnam.
As for the game itself, it’s set in a loosely defined future in which something called “The Pulse” has messed up the world and world powers are at the brink of war. Not unexpectedly, the fate of the world rests on the shoulders of one brave soldier who happens to be controlled by your humble self. Now, while shooters traditionally haven’t been the best genre of games to play on a touch screen, Afterpulse has been designed for mobile platforms from the ground up, and Gamevil is quick to point out that its latest game boasts incredibly intuitive controls. If you aren’t happy with the default control scheme, you’re able to customize the game’s user interface in any way you see fit.
Afterpulse also features a plethora of customization options allowing you to personalize your weapons, armor, gadgets, and other equipment. In addition to traditional shooter elements, the game offers a broad range of power-ups and a robust weapon leveling system which enables you to pick virtually any primary or secondary weapon out of over 800 available and turn it into the ultimate killing tool. Apart from the single player campaign which acts as a lengthy tutorial, Afterpulse also features a wide variety of multiplayer modes which should keep you entertained for months if competitive online shooters are your cup of tea.
Gamevil opted for a free-to-play business model for Afterpulse, which means that you can download and play the game at no cost, but will be offered a range of in-app purchases designed to speed up your progress. Unfortunately, there’s still no word on a worldwide release date for Afterpulse, but hopefully, the wait won’t be too long. In the meantime, there are plenty of other great Android shooters on the Play Store that will keep you occupied while you wait for Afterpulse.
