If you’re an AT&T subscriber and have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of DIRECTV NOW, your dreams probably came true this morning when the service finally launched starting at $35 a month for access to 60 plus channels. The new streaming video service from the US’ second largest wireless carrier has much to offer, putting it amongst the ranks of other services that have, for years, been convincing individuals to cut the cord from their cable service providers and switch to a service which made it easier to watch their favorite shows. DIRECTV NOW, while costing a bit more than the likes of Hulu and Netflix, will offer content that those services don’t, such as live TV, and the app has just launched on the Play Store following the initial launch of the service earlier this morning.
While Live TV is going to be a big feature for the app and the service, DIRECTV NOW offers on demand content just like many of the other streaming video services out there, and it’s all accessable from the app as you’d suspect. This means a collective of both content from networks like NBC, ABC, FOX, and more as they air on television, as well as content from premium networks like HBO, and non-primetime channels like USA, which DIRECTV NOW has chosen to highlight in their screenshots with Mr. Robot.
Not all networks for DIRECTV NOW will be available to view live, so there will be some shows which you won’t be able to watch on the go as they’re happening. That said, everything should be available on demand as the DIRECTV NOW app boasts over ten thousand movies and TV shows to watch anytime, anywhere, as long as you have an internet connection. If you’re already a subscriber of DIRECTV NOW, regardless of whatever package you have you can set up HBO or Cinemax for an extra $5 per month, and if you can’t watch everything on the go you can pause whatever it is you’re watching on your smartphone display, and pick it up back at home on the big screen by casting to your Google Cast-enabled TV or to a Chromecast device that’s plugged into your TV. Of course, the app is also free to download.
