In the Android market, BlackBerry can still be considered an infant as it has only released three Android smartphones to date. The first being the BlackBerry Priv which was launched last year, and the other two are the BlackBerry DTEK50 and BlackBerry DTEK60, both of which were launched this year. Now, the Canadian firm has brought the BlackBerry DTEK50 to the shores of India, alongside the BlackBerry DTEK60, both of which are already available in the US, Canada, the UK and Europe.
When it comes to specs, the BlackBerry DTEK50 is the mid-ranger among the two, and it packs a 5.2-inch 1080p display. Under the hood, it comes with a Snapdragon 617 CPU and an Adreno 405 GPU to handle graphics. In terms of memory, the smartphone sports 3GB of RAM coupled with 16GB of internal storage and can be boosted up to 2TB via the microSD card slot on this device. Optics-wise, there is a 13-megapixel camera around back which has phase detection auto-focus and an aperture of f/2.0. The front-facing camera is an 8-megapixel shooter with a f/2.2 aperture. Powering the device throughout the day is a 2,610mAh battery, slated to last 17 hours of mixed usage on a single charge. The BlackBerry DTEK50 which is actually a rebranded Alcatel Idol 4s, is priced at 21,990 INR ($329) in India.
The BlackBerry DTEK60 on the other hand is BlackBerry’s flagship smartphone of the year and in actual fact, it is a rebranded TCL 950. The smartphone comes with a 5.5-inch Quad HD display and a Snapdragon 820 CPU. It packs 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage which is expandable up to 256GB. For optics, it sports a 21-megapixel rear-facing camera with a f/2.2 aperture, while the front gets an 8-megapixel camera. Keeping the lights on is a 3,000mAh battery which supports Quick Charge 3.0, via the USB Type-C port and a fingerprint sensor on the rear of the device is also available. The BlackBerry DTEK60 is priced at INR 46,990 ($704) and will be available for purchase in early December alongside the BlackBerry DTEK50. It should also be noted that both smartphones come with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out of the box and BlackBerry is planning to bring Android 7.0 Nougat to both devices in the near future.
