The Xiaomi Mi MIX is one of the best-looking smartphones of 2016. This handset comes with a 91.3% screen-to-body ratio and it is made out of ceramic. The Mi MIX has no bezel on its sides, nor at the very top, it only comes with a relatively small ‘chin’ below the display. Combine all of this and you get a great looking smartphone which is extremely resistant to scratches, as JerryRigEverything’s recent test proved, but the phone is not exactly all that resistant in general, as ceramic is not the most durable material when it comes to drops, read on.
The aforementioned YouTuber drop tested the Xiaomi Mi MIX quite recently, and he managed to shatter the phone’s body really quickly (screen as well). That being said, new Xiaomi Mi MIX reports are constantly coming in, as more and more users are shattering Mi MIX’s body and display. Now, nobody expected the Xiaomi Mi MIX to be a sturdy phone, you can’t really expect something like that from a device that has such a high screen-to-body ratio, and is made out of ceramic, but it might be a good idea to put a case on it, as it will offer at least some sort of a protection for you smartphone. Now, if you take a look at the gallery down below, you’ll get to see all sorts of images of post-drop Xiaomi Mi MIX images, some that show off a device that had a case on it, and some that did not. Now, a 1.5 – 2 feet drop could be enough to shatter this phone’s body, so do keep that in mind. The phone’s display glass is also not exactly the most durable out there, and considering it has no cushion on the sides when the phone drops, chances are the glass will shatter as well, along with its body. Do keep in mind that Xiaomi did not use Gorilla Glass protection on top of this phone’s display.
There are some steps you can take to prevent shattering this display, a case is always an option, and in case you’re looking for something extra, you can actually get insurance for the phone in China, and it costs $36 a year, well, the equivalent of $36. This insurance covers the display, water damage and drops, so you’re all set in case you drop the phone.
