The Huawei Mate 9 is still fresh in everyone’s mind, but that doesn’t mean that the smartphone maker isn’t working on their successor to the P9 – a phone which has sold 9 million units in just 8 months. Huawei has likely been working on the P10 for months if not years, at this point. As smartphones are generally worked on for at least a year or more, before they are actually made public. A new device was benchmarked on GFX recently, and it appears to be the Huawei P10. The specs of the device seem to be pretty similar to what the Huawei Mate 9 sports, but with a smaller display.
According to the GFXBench listing, seen below, it appears to be running Android 7.0 Nougat, with EMUI on top. Keep in mind that Android 7.1 Nougat isn’t actually available yet, it’s still just a public beta for a number of Nexus devices. But it should be made available fairly soon, so hopefully this does launch with the latest version of Nougat. The LON-L29 also seems to be sporting a 5.5-inch display, and something of a surprise with that display. It’s a QHD display, with a resolution of 2560×1440. Huawei has said that you don’t need a QHD display on a smartphone, other than for virtual reality – even though they used one on the PORSCHE DESIGN Mate 9 earlier this month. So this could mean that they are looking to jump into virtual reality next year.
It also looks like Huawei is sticking with the Kirin 960 SoC in the P10. It’s not confirmed, but it does look to be the Kirin 960, with the Mali-G71 GPU. There’s 6GB of RAM and a whopping 256GB of storage. As far as cameras go, there’s a 12-megapixel rear camera and a 8-megapixel front-facing shooter. It’s not known whether there is dual rear-facing cameras or not – seeing as benchmarks typically only look for one, since dual-cameras is still a new thing, it may have been missed by GFX.
Huawei has typically announced the P series smartphones in the Spring, with the Huawei P9 coming this past April. So we’re still a ways out from it being official, but we should see it fairly soon, hopefully!
