Google has just started pushing an update out to the official Fiber TV app for subscribers of the service, which now allows you to record your favorite TV shows and movies. This latest update includes a handful of new features alongside the new recording option, and this is in addition to already having the ability to stream and watch TV live or on demand, which Google was keen to point out were already great features offered by the app and service. The update should already be live for many users, but Google does state that the app update will be pushed out to “all” uses in the coming weeks, which likely means that not everyone will see the update today.
The most recent app update joins other recently added features that are now part of the Fiber TV service, such as the recommendations feature that went live back in the middle of September. The update to the app is also in the middle of Google halting their plans for deploying Fiber service in 11 cities. As for what’s new with today’s app update in addition to the recording feature, Google states that subscribers who are in the middle of watching a series will see the very next episode ready and waiting for them upon opening the Fiber TV app.
Other new features include one-tap DVR recording for sports events and games, something which is sure to excite the many sports fans out there who have Fiber TV service. Naturally, Google states that the recordings can be set up even when on the go and not connected to their local home network. Following along the same lines as the “next episode” functionality for TV series shows, the Fiber TV app will also bring up the next episode of shows that are recorded in your DVR which the app is recommending you watch next, so it won’t just be for live and on-demand TV. The app will also now highlight the top live TV shows that it thinks you may want to watch based on previously watched content, so it sounds like the app has been improved quite a bit all around.
