The Huawei Watch was originally announced back in January 2015, but it did not become available until September last year. This is Huawei’s first smartwatch and it comes with Google’s wearable OS, Android Wear. Having that in mind, rumors have been saying that the next-gen Huawei smartwatch could ship with either Tizen or Huawei’s custom OS, not Android Wear. Well, the Huawei Fit smartwatch leaked quite recently, and it definitely did not seem like it comes with Android Wear on top, as it sports an e-paper display.
We did not have all that much info when the device leaked, but we do have far more info to share with you now. The Verge has more or less introduced the Huawei Fit, Huawei’s new fitness tracker (not a smartwatch after all) which looks like a smartwatch. This fitness tracker definitely looks like the Pebble Time Round, and that’s not a bad thing, depending on what your preference is, of course. This fitness tracker comes with a round face, and it sports an always-on, monochrome display, which is touch-enabled. This fitness tracker sports a number of fitness-oriented functions, of course, as it is able to count steps, track sleep and also continuously monitor your heart rate while you are working out.
The watch comes in Silver or Gray color variants, while you have a number of watch straps at your disposal, as Huawei will sell Black, Orange or Blue straps. These are the standard 18mm straps by the way, just in case you’re wondering. This device is able to sense when you’re walking, running or sleeping, so that it can turn on its features, and keep track of your progress, as in count your steps, the distance you’ve covered, calories burned, etc. Now, some of you are probably wondering if this thing has a GPS, well, it does not, but you can sync it with Huawei’s Wear app, and it is compatible with both Android and iOS platforms.
This is a versatile fitness tracker, as it serves as a notification center for your smartphone notifications (some of them) as well. The Huawei Fit will let you know when you receive a call or a message, and you can expect its battery to last for six days (of normal use), and up to a month in standby, while you can charge it in less than two hours, which is great. The Huawei Fit is coming to Amazon, Best Buy and Newegg, and it will be available starting today for $129.99.
UPDATE: The Huawei Fit comes with a 1.04-inch 208 x 208 LCD display, along with 256KB of RAM, 1MB of ROM and 16MB of flash storage. The device comes with an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance, and it can operate on temperatures from 0°C to 25°C. The 80mAh battery is included inside of the Huawei Fit, and the tracker weighs 35 grams. The tracker itself is made out of aluminum, while Huawei used thermoplastic polyurethane for the watch band. Huawei Fit comes in Titanium Gray and Moonlight Silver color variants, and it is priced at €149. This fitness tracker will land first in the following markets: France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal and the United States.
