IFTTT has just begun pushing out the version 3.0 update for its application which seems to be focusing on providing uses with an easier to use design. It’s doing this by putting the recipes at the forefront so that users have less in their way between finding what recipes will work for them, and putting those into action by setting up the automated commands that IFTTT was built for. It’s also renaming Recipes to Applets, which might actually help new users better understand what the app is designed to do and how it can help them achieve a higher level of efficiency with everyday tasks.
To put Applets at the forefront, IFTTT has made it so that new and existing users are greeted with a screen that highlights Applets. It starts by pointing out that there are a number of them that IFTTT themselves are rather fond of and invites uses to check them out via a list of recommended applets. Right on the main screen uses can scroll through these and each applet is presented as a large thumbnail image card with a brief description of what the Applet does, as well as who it was created by. This alone makes it easy for users to discover new applets or ones that they would use personally for the first time right off the bat.
In addition to this, the main page also has a series of tutorial styles message that sit along the bottom edge of the screen that describe a few key pieces of information. These little helpful hints are also on the My Applets page as well to help uses get acquainted with this page, which is where any Applets that you’ve saved or created will be located. There’s also the search page which users can access if they want to look for a particular service and see if there’s an available applet for it. IFTTT is free to use and setting up an account doesn’t cost anything either, and if you’re someone who has a few smart home products set up and want to make better use of them, this an app that you’ll want to give a shot. You could also try out Microsoft’s Flow app which just launched yesterday and carries a very similar set of features as it aims to provide a similar functionality.
