Last year’s Motorola DROID Turbo 2 release has yet to see a successor, but a series of newly leaked images appear to showcase what the phone could look like. It’s important to note that these are just leaked images, which look a whole lot like renders and not actual photos of the phone. That said, there are some defining characteristics that carry some of the design elements of more recent Moto devices, such as the Moto Z family of smartphones. By this time last year, Motorola had already shown off the DROID Turbo 2 at a special New York City event, the star of the show being its ShatterShield display that could withstand plenty of damage from drops, and with not much time left in the year it’s entirely possible that a DROID Turbo 3 may not see an unveiling until after the first of the year.
Based on these new leaks, there is no way to know if the DROID Turbo 3 would have the ShatterShield display or not, but it did make an appearance on the Moto Z Force, so there is no reason why it wouldn’t be implemented with the follow up to last year’s DROID Turbo 2 where it debuted. At least one detail of the new device seems to have take inspiration from the Moto Z, though, as the leaks show that the phone would come with a Hasselblad camera. If the leaked renders are to be believed, the DROID Turbo 3 could be sporting a 16MP sensor with an f/1.9 aperture.
When it comes to the Moto Z, the Hasselblad camera was not built directly within the phone, but there is an optional Hasselblad camera mod that can attached to the back of the device. Speaking of mods, this is another feature which the DROID Turbo 3 (at least based on these leaks) seems to have integrated into it. On the back of the phone in a couple of the images, it appears that magnetic contact points are visible, and these could be the very same contact points that were used for the Moto Z family of devices to attach the different Moto Mods. The overall design, of course, is much different from last year’s DROID Turbo 2, but it does bear a close resemblance to the DROID X which is an even older device.
