Tower defense games have been around for a long time, and the smartphone revolution has only made them more popular. If there’s one genre that’s suitable for playing on the go over a touch screen, it’s tower defense. Given that fact, it’s not surprising that the Google Play Store is filled with this type of mobile games. That isn’t to say there’s not room for more, as long as they’re good enough. As luck would have it, that seems to be the case with Legends TD – None Shall Pass, the first game made by the San Mateo-based independent developer Babeltime Inc.
Besides boasting surprisingly high production values for an indie mobile game, Legends TD offers pretty much what you’d expect from a tower defense title. You’re tasked with defending a territory from enemy forces which are progressing towards your base and must be prevented from reaching it. If too many hostile units reach the end of a level, it’s game over, so you better start building those towers as soon as possible. While Legends TD is based on a traditional tower defense formula, it does a good job of presenting it in a new manner thanks to its relatively unique pool of turrets with things like magic beam launchers.
In addition to towers, Legends TD also allows you to take control of several heroes, all of which boast different stats and capabilities. Utilizing heroes is an important step towards success because their mobility allows you to be flexible when faced with several alleys of attack. The game boasts over 40 levels which are loosely connected with a story of a monster invasion and helpless villagers which turn to your humble self for help. The levels will take you across many game worlds, each featuring different settings, towers, and enemy types. In addition to traditional tower defense gameplay, Legends TD also boasts boss battles and more in-depth RPG elements than what we’ve come to expect from similar mobile games. If that’s not enough to keep you interested, maybe daily in-game events will pique your curiosity.
Legends TD – None Shall Pass is currently available for download from the Google Play Store free of charge. The game also offers optional in-app purchases which help you overcome more difficult challenges and allow you to support its developers. After eight days on the market, Legends TD boasts a respectable 4.4-star average rating, so it definitely seems like it’s worth giving a shot.
