Half a year after initially hitting the market, the HTC 10 is seemingly ready to receive the Android 7.0 Nougat update. Back in early October, a well-known HTC ROM developer LlabTooFeR stated that the HTC 10 will be the first non-Nexus device to receive the Android Nougat update. While that hasn’t exactly happened, it seems that LlabTooFeR wasn’t too far from the truth, at least according to the latest from LlabTooFeR.
As it turns out, the MaximusHD ROM creator now took to Twitter to reveal that the HTC 10 is slated to receive Android 7.0 Nougat in the coming weeks, somewhere between late November and early December, adding that the rollout will first begin in Europe. Of course, this leak only applies to unlocked variants of the HTC 10 as carrier-branded versions of the flagship will probably receive Nougat several weeks after the Taiwanese tech giant rolls out the HTC Sense-infused version of Google’s latest open source operating system.
If a recent GFXBench listing is to be believed, the HTC 10 will first be updated to Android 7.0, and there won’t be a direct update from Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow to Android 7.1 Nougat, which apparently corroborates what LlabTooFeR revealed on Twitter. In other words, despite not having a perfect track record, this source is still pretty reliable when it comes to HTC-related leaks, so there’s good reason to believe this report is legit. Another piece of information which seemingly confirms this claim is the fact that HTC itself recently announced that its latest flagship will be updated to Nougat in Q4 2016.
In addition to that, while answering a query from one Twitter user, LlabTooFeR revealed that the Android Nougat is currently being tested on the HTC One M9, adding that he “supposes” that device will receive the update between late December and early January. Unfortunately, there’s still no word on when this year’s major iteration of Android will hit the HTC One A9, though the Taiwanese tech giant already confirmed that update will come in due time. In any case, the HTC 10 won’t be the company’s first device officially running Android 7.0 Nougat as the HTC Bolt just became available from Sprint last week. Regardless of that, if you’re based in Europe and own an unlocked version of the HTC 10, expect an OTA update in the coming weeks.
