Motorola had introduced some compelling smartphones this year, lead by the Moto Z and Moto Z Force flagship handsets. Now, we’re not here to talk about the company’s Moto Z phones, but their more affordable counterparts, the Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus, two budget smartphones that were originally introduced back in may in India. These two smartphones have been available for purchase for quite some time now, and they’re shipping with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. Well, we have good news for those of you who own either one of these phones, or play to purchase one of them in the near future, read on.
A report surfaced yesterday, saying that the company has started soak testing Moto G4 Plus in Brazil, which indicated that the Android 7.0 Nougat update might land sometime soon. Well, the update is now rolling out to both the Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus, which comes as quite a surprise actually. Motorola India has just announced that they’ve started rolling out Android 7.0 Nougat update to their Moto G4 devices, and have also released what’s coming along with the update. Now, as most of you know, Motorola’s phones ship with relatively light software, imagine vanilla Android with some added functionality from Motorola, and you’ll understand it perfectly. In any case, along with this update, you’re getting pretty much every single feature Google had released at the end of August.
So, as part of this update is concerned, you’re getting a number of productivity improvements with features like Multi-Window View, Work Mode and Quick App Switching. In addition to that, this update also includes Doze On The Go, which is essentially an improved Doze mode which allows Doze to be active even if the phone is not sitting still on your desk, which should improve the battery life on the Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus quite a bit. A new JIT compiler is also here in order to improve the performance of your device, and notifications have also been improved in Android 7.0 Nougat, quite a bit actually. You now get the ‘Direct Reply’ feature, and your notifications are completely bundled in, which gives you access to far more info and options directly from the notification shade. UPDATE: Despite the fact the Android 7.0 Nougat listing is popping up on Motorola India, it seems like the update did not start just yet (at least according to the latest report), or Motorola opted to wait on rolling out an OTA update for some reason, stay tuned.
