Earlier today, Samsung took to YouTube to introduce a new holiday-themed ad for its latest Galaxy devices. In exactly one minute, the South Korean tech giant is trying to convince consumers to consider Galaxy devices while shopping for holiday presents for their loved ones. The central message of this ad is right there in the title – “it’s not just a gift; it’s a possibility.” More specifically, the ad showcases multiple applications of devices such as the Galaxy S7 Edge, Gear 360 camera, Gear VR headset, and the Gear S3 Frontier smartwatch.
To paraphrase Samsung’s message, you should consider giving your loved ones more than just a gift this holiday season and give them an experience instead; something like an ability to run a marathon, make their first 360-degree video or share a virtual reality adventure with someone they care about. It’s also worth noting that this ad showcases the Blue Coral variant of the Galaxy S7 Edge which just became available for purchase from the four largest wireless carriers in the United States. Even though this iteration of Samsung’s flagship was originally only announced in Singapore, it seems that the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco prompted the South Korean tech giant to offer a new variant of the device in other territories, as well. The Blue Coral color originally debuted with the Galaxy Note 7 and was allegedly a rather popular pre-order option among customers before the controversial recalls happened.
All in all, this holiday season is going to be a huge test for Samsung as the Seoul-based conglomerate will finally get to see how much damage the Galaxy Note 7 discontinuation did to its omnipresent brand. So far, we’ve seen conflicting reports on the matter though Samsung itself stated that its internal research suggests most consumers will remain loyal to the Galaxy brand. Then again, Samsung isn’t exactly the most unbiased source for this type of information seeing how it’s a publicly traded company which certainly isn’t interested in upsetting its shareholders and driving down the value of its shares on the Korean Stock Market even further. So, we should hopefully know more soon after this year’s holiday season when retailers themselves will reveal how many consumers opted for Samsung products. In the meantime, enjoy the beautifully produced Samsung Galaxy ad below.
