T-Mobile Galaxy S7 & S7 Edge Receive November Security Patch

Android’s security updates are designed to improve security on smartphones which run on Android. All changes take place under the hood and consist of vulnerability patches, meaning that these updates should be top priority for any Android smartphone user wanting to access online services and content in a secure environment. Well, it is now early November and if you happen to own either a Samsung Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 Edge from T-Mobile, then you should be receiving the November security patch. While T-Mobile may be rolling out the security update to all Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge smartphones on its network, Samsung has yet to officiate any details regarding the patch on its security blog.

The software versions are G930TUVU4APK1 and G935TUVU4APK1, and are being rolled out for the Galaxy S7 (SM-G930T) and the Galaxy S7 Edge (SM-G935T) respectively. As for the changes it will bring, the changelog only states that the November security update will improve the security of the devices. Vulnerabilities which have been patched in this security update have not been disclosed, most likely to prevent hackers from leaking or exploiting the updates before it reaches all compatible devices. The full changelog will likely be disclosed by Samsung once all compatible devices receive the November security patch.

If you haven’t already received the notification prompting you to update your device, you could check whether the November security update is available for your T-Mobile device, and all you have to do is proceed to Settings, select About Device, tap on Software Update, and tap the option titled Download Updates Manually. On the other hand, you could wait for the system to prompt you to install the security update when it is available for your device. However, for that to happen, you will need to have at least 50% of battery life remaining in your device or it is plugged into an outlet. As the November security update is being delivered over-the-air (OTA), it might take a few days for you to receive it as it is released to compatible devices in stages to avoid the possibility of the servers being overloaded.
