The tablet market is currently dominated by tech giant Apple with its iPad family of tablets. This is despite the slow growth of the tablets market over the past couple of years, resulting in sluggish upgrades to hardware, including the display, camera and processors. The snail-pace market growth and Apple’s dominance, however, do not seem to upset Verizon. While other companies that either manufacture or offer tablets are far from overthrowing Apple, Verizon still appears undaunted to carry on its Ellipsis line of tablets. In fact, Big Red has just launched its next-generation of Ellipsis tablet called the Ellipsis 8 HD, two years after rolling out its predecessor, the Ellipsis 8.
It is unclear if the Ellipsis family of tablets has been performing well in the market over the last few years. But with Verizon introducing a new member of that line, it is hard to rule out the possibility that the product has been doing well enough. That being said, the Ellipsis 8 HD Android tablet is now available to purchase starting today for $249.99 or for $10.41 per month for 24 months on Verizon EDGE. The tablet comes in Midnight Blue and Arctic Grey color options.
Its announcement came hot on the heels of a leak from Evan Blass, a fame leakster of all things mobile, who earlier posted on his Twitter account some renders of the device. We did not know anything about the tablet then, but now details about its key specs have been confirmed. The Ellipsis 8 HD runs Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, though it is not clear when and if the tablet will be upgraded to Android 7.0 Nougat. As the name suggests, the device sports an 8-inch IPS full HD display with a 1080p resolution and is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 processor clocked at 1.5 GHz. Under the hood, it packs 3GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage that is expandable up to 128GB with a microSD card. It is also juiced up by a generous non-removable 5,100 mAh battery, a slight bump from that of its predecessor that accommodates a 5,000 mAh battery. The battery is supposed to keep the Ellipsis 8 HD running for up to 14.5 hours of continued use or up to 14 days of standby mode. The device also shows off an 8-megapixel rear camera with f/2.0 lens and a 5-megapixel front shooter of unknown aperture.
