The holiday season is plenty close enough for those celebrating to begin their shopping, and retailers are well aware of that. Around this time of year, many a smartphone is gifted, often with special deals from the companies that sell them. In the US, carriers traditionally run specials at different times throughout the Holiday season, including the infamous Black Friday shopping day and the days leading up to it. The deals for the period leading up to this year’s Black Friday for Verizon customers weren’t supposed to be made public yet, but an official-looking email was sent to our source over at PhoneArena by an anonymous party, with the format of the email suggesting that the person who leaked it is a Verizon employee.
The email provided is a short and sweet one, seemingly an internal memo. It points out that Big Red will be waiving activation and upgrade fees for all customers, whether hopping on board for the first time, adding a new line or two, or even simply treating themselves to a new device. The deal runs between November 17th and November 23rd, and the email advises the recipient to “keep this in mind.” Aside from the limited time frame, the caveats here are decidedly limited; all the email says is that people wanting to take advantage of the deal will need to get a new 4G LTE device on a payment plan, which could mean that those wanting to add a line and bring their own device may still have to pay an activation fee.
The email looks official enough, but as with any leak, should be taken with a grain of salt. The fees in question are relatively cheap, running only $20 apiece, but the deal is still a nice gesture and could be make or break for those who don’t have a lot of cash to throw around and want the reliability of Verizon’s network. Still, those who may be eyeing a new device or thinking about hopping onto Verizon could save themselves enough to buy an extra holiday gift or two if they’re willing to hold off for a couple of days and see if this leak is true.
