With consumers relying more and more on a fast and reliable internet access from their smartphone, it’s no surprise that Verizon’s $30 a month prepaid plan which offered unlimited talk and text but zero 4G LTE data was no longer the hit it used to be with customers.
Verizon took notice of this and today it has confirmed that it is finally axing the plan, most likely due to unpopularity and the fact that most customers now look for quite a bit of data on their plans. Now, obviously, the plan may possibly have been a hit with customers who don’t own smartphones, but with more and more people gradually switching over to smartphones, it makes complete sense to leave only the more expensive prepaid plans. For those wondering, the remaining prepaid plans consist of 2GB of LTE data for $45 per month and 5GB of 4G data for $60 per month. Aside from this, the carrier giant also decided to axe its cheapest prepaid plan which was aimed at the most basic phones. The plan, which cost $15 per month, offered 300 minutes and texts, but now customers are being forced to move to the more expensive $30 plan which offers unlimited of both, along with unlimited mobile web.
Verizon’s range of prepaid plans is available alongside their postpaid plans. Currently, the carrier offers a total of five data plans ranging from the smaller S plan to the larger XXL plan. With these plans, Verizon offers the choice of 2GB, 4GB, 8GB, 16GB or 24GB with all plans including carryover data and Safety Mode which offers unlimited 2G data, while the XL and XXL plans both include unlimited calling to Mexico and Canada, as well as data, talking and texting when in either country. Currently, it appears Verizon has no plans to replace either of the prepaid plans, so it’ll remain to be seen if the company will be hit significantly by a loss of customers over the next quarter. What is for sure, though, is that with the price of these plans being so low, the company’s revenues will surely not take that much of a hit.
