Huawei has been on a roll with releases lately, especially when it comes to well designed and built phones. This year marks a special release though, and one that show’s Huawei’s continued brand evolution and growth to become a truly worldwide model of quality and excellence. Often times we’ll see such brands pair up with other high end brands around the world to make new and interesting products that haven’t been seen before, and thus is born the Huawei PORSCHE DESIGN Mate 9. While there are some similarities between the regular Mate 9 and the new PORSCHE DESIGN model, the differences between the two are likely what’s most important.
Sporting a 5.5-inch Quad-HD AMOLED screen on the front with dual curved edges, this one might resemble some others on the market of late with such a design. Unlike the recently announced Xiaomi Mi Note 2, however, this one doesn’t feature a curved glass back, rather it still sports Huawei’s incredibly strong and sleek metal unibody design. Inside you’ll find the same 4,000mAh battery and Kirin 960 octo-core processing package that the regular Mate 9 holds, and of course both phones are powered by the brand new EMUI 5.0 Android skin from Huawei on top of Android 7.0 Nougat. You also might notice the dual Leica cameras on the back, the main one sporting a 20-megapixel sensor while the secondary 12-megapixel RGB sensor is used for enhanced contrast and dynamic range.
We’ve seen Leica cameras from Huawei before, and to great success too, which is clearly why Leica is back for more with the Mate 9 and PORSCHE DESIGN Mate 9 as well. These sensors do some pretty incredible things as you might have seen from our Huawei P9 review back in late Spring, and we’re pretty excited to put this one to the test. Aside from these luxuries it’s worth noting that this particular model is a limited edition phone and will go on sale in December throughout Europe for a pretty hefty €1,395, and a worldwide limited release will happen in January for about the same amount of money. Is this one worth picking up soon, or should you go for the cheaper Mate 9 this holiday season? Check it out in action in our video below!
