Xiaomi hasn’t exactly been the fastest company out there to push new Android versions to their smartphones, they do tend to update their MIUI Android skin frequently, but Xiaomi-branded devices were stuck on Android 4.4 KitKat for quite some time. Well, the company had jumped to Android 5.1 Lollipop at one point, and soon after that, they released the Android 6.0 Marshmallow-based MIUI OS. Having that in mind, Xiaomi had confirmed a while back that they’re already working on Android 7.0 Nougat MIUI update, and it seems like that update might land soon, read on.

The company is currently looking for global beta testers for Android 7.0 Nougat-based MIUI 8 ROM. The company is specifically looking for people who have a global variant of the Xiaomi Mi 5, Xiaomi Mi Max or the Xiaomi Redmi 3s / Prime. This suggests that the Android 7.0 Nougat beta is already live and kicking, which means that the stable variant could be close to release. Those of you who have one of the aforementioned devices, and are interested in trying out Android 7.0 Nougat-based MIUI 8 OS before anyone else, feel free to follow the source link down below and apply to become a beta tester. Once you apply, the company will contact you via a private message if you get selected, you’ll need an MIUI account in order to apply though, of course. Also, do keep in mind that registrations will be closed soon, so hurry up if you’re interested in becoming Xiaomi’s beta tester.

The company did not really release any info regarding Android 7.0 Nougat-based MIUI 8 OS, aside from the fact that the update is coming soon. We do expect to see a ton of changes though, the company will certainly include a number of Nougat features in MIUI 8, so chances are we’ll probably see a more capable notification shade in MIUI 8, better battery life on MIUI 8 devices, etc. It is quite possible, and probable actually, that MIUI won’t look all that much different when Android 7.0 Nougat lands, as this is still MIUI 8 we’re talking about, not MIUI 9. MIUI 8 has been available for quite some time now, and there are a ton of devices which ship with it out there, so Xiaomi is only adding new features to it with the Android 7.0 Nougat update.
