As has been the case with many companies who deal with online video content, there has been a big push of late towards a cord-cutting experience. That is, one which is free of cable subscriptions and/or contracts and one which looks to offer the consumer only the content they want. More importantly, only pay for the content they want. DIRECTV NOW being one of the most recent examples. Amazon is no different and in addition to its already available Amazon Prime membership which offers access to a degree of video content at no additional charge, back in December of 2015, Amazon also started its ‘Amazon Channels’ program. This is a service which essentially looks to offer Prime members a way to consume content from major content providers and channels without the need for a cable commitment.
At first, this started with the introduction of access to some third-party video services like STARZ and SHOWTIME, but over time the program has naturally expanded to include more services. Speaking of which, the latest services to join the Amazon Channels bandwagon are HBO and Cinemax. Amazon announced their joining earlier today and confirmed that Amazon Prime Members can now subscribe to HBO for $14.99 per month and/or subscribe to Cinemax for $9.99 per month. Although, both services are also available on a one-month free trial service so you can test them out cost-free before having to pay their respective monthly fees.
As the Amazon announcement points out, the inclusion of these two latest services now brings the Amazon Channels subscription list to over 80 services. Which does mean that Amazon now offers quite a selection of subscriptions for its Prime customers to choose from. Of course, it does not necessarily mean that subscribing to any of the services is any cheaper than subscribing to them in a standalone fashion or through another similar service. Although it does mean that you can simply add them to your Amazon Prime membership and only have to pay Amazon and not have to be concerned about setting up multiple payment plans or subscriptions.
