Google's Allo Reaches Ten Million Play Store Downloads

Allo is Google’s latest take on a messaging service for Android and one which looks to be more than just a messaging app due to its ability to also make use of Google Assistant. However, it is an app which has been fraught with skepticism ever since its release. Although, that skepticism did not initially stop the app from getting a good start in terms of download numbers. In fact, following its initial release on September 23 and by September 28, the app has been downloaded more than five million times. Which is not bad for an app which had only been available for a handful of days.

That said, since then it seems that Google’s Allo has taken a bit of a hit in terms of public approval and download stats. A little more than a week after reaching that five million downloads marker, Allo was noted significantly dropping down the Google Play Store charts. Fast forward to now and the latest on Allo is that it has now finally reached ten million downloads from the Google Play Store.

Which does make it hard to draw any firm conclusions on how Allo is actually doing. For instance, on the one hand, Allo has now reached ten million downloads. Which by any app standard, is a fairly good number and certainly considering the app has only been on the market for less than three months. However, the fact that it has now taken almost two of those months to generate the same number of downloads that it did in the first week of release, does indicate that while growing in downloads, that growth is slowing down considerably. Which seems to run parallel to the speculation that the general Android public is losing interest in the app. Of course, as the number of downloads increases, it should be expected that the frequency of downloading would level out somewhat and so it is difficult to really judge whether this is a good or a bad thing for Allo. Either way though, ten million downloads is still a feat to be recognized and if you have yet to download Allo and would like to help contribute to the next million, five million or ten million downloads, then you can grab a copy of the app by heading through the link below.
