Report: Samsung Gear S3 To launch In India In January 2017

According to some sections of the tech media in India, Samsung is planning to launch its Gear S3 smartwatch in the country next month. The device, which was unveiled back at the IFA trade show in Berlin earlier this year, comes in two distinct variants called the Gear S3 Classic and Gear S3 Frontier. While the former comes with a minimalistic look with its stainless steel body and circular buttons, the latter has a more rugged look with a slightly larger bezel that is paired with textured, rectangular buttons. Both the models have already been launched in the U.S., the U.K., the EU, South Korea and Canada, and if the latest reports are anything to go by, India might soon be another name added to that list going forward. It is important to remember though, that Samsung is yet to announce anything on this matter officially.

While the Gear S3 Classic and the Gear S3 Frontier are both expected to launch in the country next month, there’s no exact ETA at the moment, and nor is there any definitive info about the pricing. For context, though, the devices are being sold in the U.S. for $349.99 and in the U.K. for £349 ($425). For the uninitiated, the Gear S3 Classic and the Gear S3 Frontier are Samsung’s latest Tizen-based smartwatches that bring quite a few new features and functionality when compared to the company’s 2015 offerings, the Gear S2 and the Gear S2 Classic. Some of the improvements include LTE connectivity (for the Gear S3 Frontier), larger displays, better performance, more accurate activity tracking via GPS and improved battery life.

Taking a quick look at some of the key hardware specs of Samsung’s latest premium smartwatch, the Gear S3 features a 1.3-inch circular Super AMOLED display panel that comes with a resolution of 360 x 360 pixels and is protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass SR+ technology. Both the variants come with 4GB of built-in storage and are powered by the same dual-core processor that’s clocked at a frequency of 1GHz. Both smartwatches feature Bluetooth 4.2 and Wi-Fi b/g/n connectivity and support NFC and GPS. Instead of Android Wear, Samsung’s smartwatches run on Tizen-based Wearable Platform 2.3.2, and have already received a software update since its global launch late last month.
