We’ve already read quite a few reports and rumors about the second-generation Galaxy A5 handset, which should be launched in the coming weeks as a follow up to the Galaxy A5 (2016) that was unveiled last December by Samsung Electronics. The alleged hardware specs of the Galaxy A5 (2017) are already in public domain following its listing on the Geekbench database back in August. The device has since been leaked multiple times as well, including a video that was spotted in the wild a few weeks ago. Now, some of the hardware specs of the rumored device has leaked out again, this time apparently from a source in the Middle East. The leak pretty much confirms what we had already read earlier about the upcoming handset, although we’re still no closer to hearing anything definitive about the phone’s release date or its pricing.
According to what we’ve read thus far about the Galaxy A5 (2017), the device will feature a 5.2-inch, 1080p display panel with Gorilla Glass 4 for protection. Although it’s likely to come with an AMOLED panel, we can’t really be certain about that at this point in time. Moreover, while earlier rumors had suggested a panel that will be curved on both sides, the latest leak, as can be seen from the image below, mentions only a 2.5D screen. It remains to be seen what Samsung comes up with in the end, but the 2.5D glass seems more plausible than the full-curved panel seeing as we’re only talking about a mid-ranger here. Either way, the device is also expected to come with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of expandable storage, while both the primary and secondary cameras are said to be 16-megapixel units.
The build quality of Samsung’s mid-range smartphones have improved by leaps and bounds over the past couple of years, and this one’s not likely to be an exception either. According to the leaked document, the Galaxy A5 (2017) should have an aluminum frame with a 3D glass back design, while a fingerprint scanner is to be expected with any mid-range handset these days. Connectivity features will include a USB Type-C connector, and the phone is also expected to have support for Dual SIM cards. The device is also expected to be water resistant, which is certainly welcome news. Finally, the battery on the upcoming device will apparently be rated at 3,000mAh, which should be enough to last a full day with moderate usage.
