Every time Verizon is preparing to push out a new update to one of their smartphones, they publish new support documents that let the customer know everything they need to know about the incoming update. This includes the build number. These updates are typically done on the day that the update will be rolling out. And today, they published new documents for the Google Pixel (and subsequently, the Pixel XL). Stating that build NMF26O is on its way out the door.
According to Verizon’s support page, this update brings in a slew of bug fixes and performance improvements as well as the December 2016 security patch. What’s missing however, is the raise-to-wake and double tap to wake functionality that was sent out to the Canadian variant a few weeks ago. Verizon doesn’t mention them in their changelog, but that doesn’t mean that they aren’t included in this build. We’ll have to wait until the build actually begins rolling out to users to find out.
It was rumored that Google would begin pushing out Android 7.1.1 to supported Nexus devices (actually started hitting some Nexus devices last Friday) and the Pixel, Pixel XL today, so it’s not a huge surprise to see this support page get updated today. Additionally, it’s the first Monday of the month, which means a new security patch starts rolling out today. That also means we’ll be seeing more information on this update from Google in the next few hours.
For those that are looking for this update, it’ll likely begin rolling out later today, and be a staged rollout for the next few days. Google will be posting the full images for the update to Android 7.1.1 in the next few hours – including those for the Verizon variants – so that you can simply flash the full image onto your Pixel or Pixel XL and have the update pretty quickly. However, this is a pretty small update for the Pixel lineup, so it’s probably easier to wait it out.
