JerryRigEverything, or also known simply as Zack, is a YouTuber who happens to perform durability tests and teardowns of the latest flagship smartphones. In his durability tests, he does everything from scratch tests, to burn tests and the infamous bend test. However, this time around, Zack received a brand new OnePlus 3T and didn’t put it through his infamous torture test, instead he opened it up and compared it to the OnePlus 3. His reason being that the OnePlus 3T has the same body as the now discontinued OnePlus 3, which he performed his durability test on in the past, and performing a torture test on the new smartphone would result in pretty similar results.
The OnePlus 3T comes with only a few minor upgrades on the outside, such as a new Gunmetal color variant and now with sapphire crystal glass which protects the camera lens of the smartphone. In Zack’s new YouTube video, he set out to test OnePlus’ claim regarding the sapphire crystal glass protection. At first, Zack used his diamond selector tool which is able to detect sapphire crystal glass, to test out the camera lens. The diamond selector tool showed positive signs of sapphire crystal glass in the lens, and when he used the same tool on the older OnePlus 3, the results were negative. Next, Zack used his blade to scratch the camera lens without any effect, then he proceeded to use his Mohs picks to test the hardness of the sapphire crystal glass, and once doing so, the glass only scratched at level 8 on Mohs scale of hardness. Normal glass would scratch at level 6 but sapphire crystal glass would only scratch at level 8 or 9 on Mohs scale of hardness, proving that OnePlus did use the material for their latest flagship.
Zack also opened up the back of the OnePlus 3T and placed it beside the OnePlus 3, to compare the internals of the two smartphones. Both devices look pretty similar next to each other, and the only thing which sets the devices apart is a green pull tab located within the OnePlus 3T. The YouTuber also decided to swap the batteries between the devices, and both devices were able to turn on even with swapped batteries. However, when the 3,400 mAh battery of the OnePlus 3T was placed in the OnePlus 3, multiple battery capacity apps determined the battery to be a 3,000 mAh one, which is the capacity of the original battery found in the OnePlus 3. This is most likely due to OnePlus limiting the charge of the battery in the OnePlus 3 so that it will not overcharge.
