Android 7.0 Nougat For The Galaxy Tab S2 Gets WFA Approval

Samsung continues to expand the availability of Android Nougat on some of its devices, primarily the Samsung Galaxy S7, and the company is also expected to bring the update to the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 tablet released in 2015 under Android 5.0.2 Lollipop. Speaking of the aforementioned tablet, it would appear that Samsung is preparing to push Android 7.0 Nougat on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 sooner rather than later, as the device has been recently spotted in the database of Wi-Fi Alliance running the said Android OS version. Needless to say, with one less formality to worry about, Android 7.0 Nougat for the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 could be just around the corner.

To be precise, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 variant whose Android 7.0 Nougat update has been approved by the Wi-Fi Alliance is identified by model number “SM-T817”, meaning that this is the model rocking a larger 9.7-inch display. There’s not much else to gather from the Wi-Fi Alliance application, other than the fact that the update has been approved by the regulatory agency today – January 26. It’s unclear when the update should officially land on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2, but it’s worth noting that Samsung has seemingly been working on bringing Android 7.0 Nougat to the tablet in question since Q4 2016, as the same slate was also spotted on the benchmarking website GFXBench running Android 7.0 Nougat in December last year. Meanwhile, the South Korean company seems to be planning on introducing a sequel called the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3, running Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box, but hopefully, the ongoing model will receive the update ahead of its predecessor’s debut.

In any case, once Android 7.0 Nougat arrives on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2, the software package should introduce a number of new features and improvements, in terms of both visuals and accessibility. Battery life should be improved thanks to always-On Doze, performance should also see a bump, and numerous user interface elements – including the settings screen and notification shade – should be refreshed by the new update. Hopefully, the smaller Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 variant rocking an 8-inch display will receive the Android 7.0 Nougat treatment within the same timeframe as its larger sibling, whenever that may happen to be.
