Android Nougat Begins Rolling Out to the HTC One A9 Today

HTC’s VP of product management announced on Twitter that the company has received technical approval for the Android 7.0 Nougat update for the HTC One A9. And added that the OTA will be beginning as soon as tonight. Unfortunately, this is only for the US version of the HTC One A9, so those in other countries will have to wait a bit before they get their update. The HTC One A9 joins the HTC 10 and HTC One M9 in getting Android Nougat. Not quite as quick as HTC had been hoping to get the update out to the One A9, but given the fact that technical approval is out of their hands, it’s still pretty fast.

The HTC One A9 was released in the fall of 2015. It’s just over a year old, and is a somewhat mid-range flagship for the company. The One A9 sports a 5-inch 1080p resolution display, powered by the Snapdragon 617 with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. HTC also added in a somewhat small 2150mAh battery in the One A9, which offered better battery life than most expected, given the small capacity. There is also a physical home button, which doubles as the fingerprint sensor. The HTC One A9 is still being sold at many retailers, with eBay selling one as low as $149. Which isn’t a bad price for the HTC One A9, considering it launched at $429, and stayed around that price ever since.

In the last few years, HTC has been working to be as transparent as possible, when it comes to updates. Seeing as these updates go through many different processes before actually making it to your device, Mo Versi, VP of product management at HTC has been working to keep everyone updated as to when updates are approved and when the rollout will begin. Those of you in the US with the HTC One A9 can head on into Settings > About Phone > Check for Updates and find their Nougat update waiting for them in a few hours. There’s no word on how large the update will be, but seeing as this is a new version of Android, it’s likely to be a large one. So you will definitely want to be on a WiFi network before beginning the update.
