CES 2017: Hands-On With The 2017 LG K Series Smartphones

Towards the end of December, LG confirmed that they will be debuting five new smartphones at CES 2017. Four of those smartphones are all part of the same family of devices and make up the 2017 LG K Series, following on from last year’s models. These are the LG K3, the LG K4, the LG K8, and the LG K10. Which is also a scale which generally represents the size and importance of the device.

For instance, the LG K3 is the smallest of the devices and comes equipped with a 4.5-inch display with an 854 x 480 resolution. The rest of the specs include 1GB RAM, 8GB storage and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 powering the show. Next up is the K4 which ups the screen size to 5-inches, although the resolution, RAM, storage and processor remain the same. In contrast, the LG K8 keeps the same 5-inch display as the K4, but sees the resolution edging upwards to the 1280 x 720 level. Likewise, the RAM on offer is 1.5GB and the storage is 16GB. At an even bigger size is the LG K10 which comes with a modest 5.3-inch display with a HD resolution. While the RAM is 2GB and storage will be available as either 16GB and 32GB.

As is probably to be expected, the cameras are another area where there are some notable differences. The K3 for instance, comes packing a 5-megapixel rear camera along with a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. The K4 on the other hand comes equipped with a 5-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. The K8 comes loaded with a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera, while the K10 makes use of the same camera combo configuration as the K8, but the front-facing camera is said to come with a wide-angle lens. Similar to the differences in specs, the differences in design are also present, but minimal with the LG K Series for 2017 adopting the same general look. Although as you progress up the K-number you do start to see some more premium traits starting to emerge.
