Smartwatches have felt a little bit absent of late, at least when it comes to Android Wear, but CES has certainly put a stop to that as companies like Fossil and CASIO officially announced new offerings for the smartwatch market. CASIO’s is called the Pro Trek, and it does indeed run on Android Wear software. While the announcement for the Pro Trek watch was yesterday, today we’ve been able to get a little bit better of a look at it as we’ve been able to get some hands-on time to check out the watch and its various features.
Right away you can tell this is a watch made by CASIO, and not just cause they’re name is on the part of the band that meets the hinge on one side, but because this looks like it takes some heavy inspiration in the design department from CASIO’s line of G-Shock watches. While that design means that it’s definitely going to have a rugged look and build to it, it also shouldn’t be surprising that the Pro Trek is packed with GPS as this is certainly meant to be more of an outdoorsy type of smartwatch as opposed to a sleek and stylish offering. Although it is definitely stylish if you prefer this look to your watches, smart or not.
In case you were wondering the Pro Trek will come running on Android Wear 2.0, so it will have all the bells and whistles that have been popping up in the developer previews for the Android Wear 2.0 software. It’s also coming in multiple colors including what looks like a burnt orange, and a black, if you prefer to have a little bit of customization. While you’ll have loads of features that come straight from Android Wear 2.0, it’ll also have some features specific to this watch in particular, like online and offline support for color maps, which is sure to be a very useful function if you plan to wear this while you’re on excursions.
