CES 2017: Hands-On With The Ring Floodlight Cam

Ring is a company who has quickly become known for their range of home connected devices. With CES 2017 being so heavily focused this year on the connected home, it is not surprising that Ring is in attendance. Nor was it surprising when Ring unveiled and introduced its latest security-focused connected device. Although, the type of device that they did announce is not what you might normally associate with being connected. This is the Ring Floodlight Cam.

Of course, the Ring Floodlight Cam is no ordinary floodlight camera. While it does indeed (LED) illuminate the area, it also comes with a built-in video camera which is able to record in 1080p. Adding to its visual recording capabilities, is its audible capabilities as this one also includes a 100db siren. One which Ring notes is “the loudest speaker on any outdoor camera”. Add to that, Wi-Fi connectivity, cloud recording and 270-degree motion detection, and you get quite the little product. Although, it is also worth mentioning that this is a camera which is just as usable during the night as the day, due to its night vision support.

Ring has also pointed out that while this is a device which is high on security, it is not one which is complex to set up. In fact, Ring has looked to ensure that the setup procedure is as easy as possible and so there is no additional help needed. This is a do-it-yourself sort of product. Once it is set up, and as with most connected items these days, it can be connected to your smartphone. After which, you can further customize the level of security to your liking – like for instance, receiving notifications when the Floodlight Cam detects movement. Speaking of which, at times like that, you will be able to use the camera to remotely view what’s happening through your smartphone and the built-in loudspeaker to talk to whoever is causing the motion detection. Or just to set off the siren to scare them away. In terms of availability, the Ring Floodlam Cam is available to pre-order now from Ring and will set you back $249.
