Honor has just launched the Dual Camera Honor 6X for $250 at CES 2017, ushering in a new smartphone that has a dual camera setup with a mid-range device cost. While it’s not unprecedented for Honor to offer up smartphones with competitive specs at a more affordable price compared to other brands, dual rear cameras are something that are usually reserved for devices with a higher price tag, which is what will likely make the Honor 6X a more compelling device to consumers. While $250 is the price for consumers in the U.S., Honor states that the phone is also launching in the UK, as well as in Europe, with a price point set for the UK at £225 at vMall, as well as through Three UK near the end of the month. For Europe, the price will be €250 and will be available vMall as well as Amazon, while pre-orders in the U.S. will start today and will be available from Amazon, Best Buy, Newegg, and hihonor.com with sales of the phone going live on January 15th.
The Honor 6X focuses on giving consumers a great camera experience with a dual rear camera setup that features 12-megapixel and 2-megapixel sensors, complete with phase detection autofocus and LED flash. Honor boasts that the device is capable of providing better quality low-light images using what they call Deep Trench Isolation, a method for suppressing the blur by isolating pixels, as blur can sometimes be found in images when the shutter has to stay open longer to let in more light in a low-light situation. For the front camera Honor has used an 8-megapixel sensor for video chat and selfies.
In addition to the camera setup, the Honor 6X is also equipped with a 5.5-inch FullHD display with 2.5D curved glass as well as a fingerprint sensor, and it’s powered by the Kirin 655 octa-core processor which is paired with 3GB of RAM as well as 32GB of internal storage space which is expandable up to 128GB via a microSD card. Honor will also offer a 4GB RAM model which doubles the internal storage up to 64GB, which Honor states will be available sometime in the first quarter of 2017 at a price of $299 in the U.S., and €299 in Europe although they don’t mention specific European markets. Honor has fitted the device with a rather sizable 3,340mAh battery that they state can last the user up to 2.2 days which, although becoming more common, a 2-day battery life is still not a standard that most people can expect out of their smartphones these days. The Honor 6X is running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and features Honor’s EMUI 4.1 on top, with a split screen feature and a newly integrated EMUI feature called Wi-Fi Bridge, which basically turns the phone into a Wi-Fi range extender to help other devices connect to your local Wi-Fi network that may not have been able to before due to a weaker signal. The Honor 6X will launch in three different colors, which include Grey, Silver, and Gold. While the Honor 6X is just now being made official as of today, it’s not the first time there have been bits of information surrounding the phone, as Honor recently teased the device on January 1st stating that they would have a new “epic” phone to show off at CES this year, which was originally speculated to be a U.S. version of the Honor Magic.
