Honor has made their newest device official as of earlier today, having recently outed the Honor 6X, a new affordable mid-tier smartphone that not only manages to provide consumers with a sleek looking device wrapped in a metal body, but also pack in meaningful features, hardware, and specifications, most notably a dual camera setup for the main camera on the back of the device, where you’ll also find a fingerprint sensor for unlocking the phone and authorizing mobile payments. While mid-tier phones have been getting better as of late, Honor’s introduction of the Honor 6X seemingly gets away with doing something that really no other OEMs are doing, which is integrating a dual rear-facing camera to really hone in on the quality of images that can be produced by a phone in this price range, which sits firmly at a cool $250 for the U.S. market for a 3GB RAM variant that also comes with 32GB of storage. Of course, there will be a 4GB RAM and 64GB storage model available for $50 more if you desire.
While the computing power is sure to impress a handful of consumers, the real draw is in the prowess of the cameras, and we’ve been able to get some hands-on time with the phone to dive a little deeper into what those cameras are capable of doing. On the back, Honor has fitted two main camera sensors to comprise the setup of a 12-megapixel sensor with Phase Detection Auto Focus and LED flash, as well as a 2-megapixel sensor for enhanced image quality.
These enhanced features manifest in functional capabilities like depth of field shots, which the user has complete control over and can manage both before the shot is taken, as well as afterward. This more precise control over what lies in the foreground and what lies in the background allows for users to put a nice little spin on their photos for a more artistic look, and while this isn’t the first phone to feature depth of field effects of this magnitude using two camera sensors for the main camera setup, the highlight here is that Honor is introducing it for a fairly low cost compared to other devices. Naturally, other camera features like the Wide Aperture mode and the ability to add in things like watermarks to your pictures will only make the camera experience on the Honor 6X even better.
