The Honor 6X was announced at CES 2017, and it happens to be the successor to the highly popular Honor 5X which was released last year. While the Honor 6X is actually already on sale in China, the device was announced at CES 2017 for the global smartphone market, including the US and Europe where it is already available for pre-order. The Honor 6X happens to be running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box and not the latest version of Android which is currently Android 7.0 Nougat. However, Honor has mentioned at the unveiling of the handset that it will be updating the device to Android 7.0 Nougat in the near future.
The sub-brand of Huawei promised consumers that it will be updating the Honor 6X to the latest version of Android sometime in the second quarter of the year. This update will upgrade the software of the device to EMUI 5.0 based on Android 7.0 Nougat. EMUI 5.0 is Honor’s skinned version of Android 7.0 Nougat. While Honor didn’t divulge into the details of the coming update, it does give consumers hope that the device will eventually receive the update to the latest version of Android. However, till the update is sent out to the Honor 6X, users can only hope Honor will keep their promise. This comes after the company promised that the Honor 8, which is their current flagship smartphone, will receive quarterly software updates.
The latest offering from Honor, is made out of metal and comes with thin side bezels. The device sports a 5.5-inch full HD 2.5D curved glass IPS display, and it is powered by a Kirin 655 SoC, couped with a Mali T830-MP2 GPU to handle graphics. This hybrid Dual SIM device comes with either 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage or 4GB of RAM and 32GB / 64GB of internal storage. When it comes to optics, the Honor 6X happens to be dual camera smartphone, packing a 12-megapixel shooter along with a 2-megapixel shooter on its rear. On the front, it comes with an 8-megapixel selfie shooter. The 3,340mAh battery encased within the device supports fast charging.
