Honor 8 Units Worldwide Now Receiving Android Nougat

Owners of the Honor 8 in Japan started receiving the Android 7.0 Nougat update a few days ago and the same update is now reportedly rolling out worldwide. The latest update for unlocked variants of the Honor 8 includes EMUI 5.0, a custom skin designed by Huawei. The update itself apparently weighs around 2.27GB while the one received by owners of the Honor 8 in Japan was approximately 1.97GB in size. The difference in size can likely be explained by the fact that the global variant of the Honor 8 received a package that’s filled with more features, though that has yet to be confirmed.

The latest OTA for the Honor 8 includes system optimizations, stability improvements, reworked app versatility, and improved performance, alongside all of the other features of Android 7.0 Nougat and EMUI 5.0. More details on these new features will emerge once Honor publishes its official changelog, which has yet to happen. The custom EMUI 5.0 skin initially made its debut on the Huawei Mate 9, the latest flagship smartphone made by Huawei. This update is being rolled out in stages so that it goes more smoothly without overloading Honor’s servers. Due to that state of affairs, this rollout is expected to take a few weeks. The Android Nougat update for the Honor 8 is being pushed out over-the-air and you will be sent a notification prompting you to download and install it once it’s available for your device. If you have yet to receive a notification regarding the update, open the Settings app, select About Phone, and tap on Software Updates, which will allow you to manually check if the update for your device is ready for download.

Honor is a sub-brand of Huawei known for manufacturing smartphones which feature high-end hardware but are simultaneously relatively affordable. The Honor 8 is one of the company’s best smartphones, having received praise for its affordability, performance, and build quality from both consumers and tech reviewers alike. It was initially reported that the Honor 8 will start receiving the latest version of Android in February, but it seems like Honor managed to speed things up, which many owners of this smartphone will certainly appreciate.
