The HTC U Ultra Android flagship is launching in Taiwan next month, the Taoyuan-based phone maker revealed on Monday. HTC launched an official HTC U Ultra page stating that the device will be available for preorders in mid-February and is scheduled to start shipping later that month. All preorders are expected to reach customers by early March, the listing reveals. The 64GB variant of the HTC U Ultra featuring Corning’s Gorilla Glass 5 will be priced at NT$23,900, or approximately $760. The 128GB model boasting a sapphire display will sport an NT$28,900 price tag, which amounts to around $920. Taiwanese customers can register on the HTC website to be notified once the HTC U Ultra is available for preorders.
The company’s latest Android flagship boasts a 5.7-inch QHD (2560 x 1440) display complemented by a secondary, 2.05-inch display featuring a resolution of 160 by 1040 pixels. The second screen is used for notifications and shortcuts, not unlike the one found in the LG V20. The HTC U Ultra is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 system-on-chip equipped with four cores clocked at 2.15GHz and the Adreno 530 GPU for rendering graphics. The 64GB model comes packed with 4GB of RAM, while the 128GB one ships with 6GB of RAM. The HTC U Ultra also features a microSD card slot supporting up to 2TB of additional storage.
The device packs a 12-megapixel UltraPixel 2 OIS camera on the back, boasting an aperture of f/1.8. The camera is capable of shooting 4K videos and is complemented by a dual-LED, dual tone flash and a Laser Autofocus system. On the front, the HTC U Ultra sports a 16-megapixel shooter which supports 1080p videos. HTC’s new phone is powered by a 3,000mAh battery compatible with Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 technology and runs Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. The HTC U Ultra also features a Night Mode and was designed to appeal to phablet enthusiasts looking to purchase a new Android phone in early 2017. The Taiwanese phone maker is expected to debut more powerful devices later in the year.
