The latest renders of Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S8 seems to show that the device will come without a physical ‘Home’ button, something that has been a staple of all Samsung flagships ever since the company launched the original Galaxy S smartphone back in 2010 with Android 2.3 Gingerbread on-board. The renders, posted on Twitter earlier today, are in no way official images leaked by a Samsung insider, but instead, are the work of an artist named Veniamin Geskin, who describes himself as a designer, futurist and technology enthusiast. While these unofficial renders give us little clue about what Samsung has in store for its upcoming flagship, they are still interesting to look at nonetheless.
Of course, these are not the first set of renders that seem to suggest that the device will lack a physical ‘Home’ button. Just a couple of weeks ago, another set of renders seemingly suggested the exact same thing. Those images came courtesy of a China-based Weibo user, ‘KingwayLee’, and had some similarities with the renders that have now popped up on Twitter. An interesting facet of the new images is that the design shows a single rear camera, which is in line with more recent rumors which claim Samsung has given up on its original dual rear-camera idea and is sticking with the tried-and-tested formula of a single, high-quality sensor to act as the primary imaging option on its next-gen flagship.
A couple of other notable features seemingly visible in the Mr. Geskin’s renders, have also been rumored heavily in the global online tech media over the past several weeks. They include an iris scanner and an USB Type-C port, neither of which are available in Samsung’s current flagships, the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, but were present in the ill-fated Galaxy Note 7 that had to be withdrawn from the market within weeks of its release. Either way, it will be interesting to see how closely the actual Galaxy S8 will resemble the latest concept renders, but if all the reports, rumors and speculations are anything to go by, Samsung’s next-gen flagship will certainly be a smartphone worth keeping an eye on.
