HMD Global purchased rights to release Nokia branded smartphones from Microsoft and the Finnish company is said to be gearing up to release a bunch of Nokia smartphones throughout this year, which are set to be running on Android. However, Nokia will be focusing on budget handsets for the time being and one such smartphone happens to be the alleged Nokia E1.
Previously, leaks of the Nokia D1, or Nokia D1C, could be found all over the place, but recently, leaks regarding the Nokia E1 have emerged too. In the latest leak, specs of the alleged upcoming smartphone have surfaced, and it is expected to be one of the cheapest smartphones to be released by HMD this year. Before this latest leak surfaced, it was rumored that the Nokia E1 will come packing a 5.5-inch display, and will be fueled by a chipset from Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 200 series. It was also said that the device will come with only 1GB of RAM and ship with Android 7.0 Nougat. Now, a conflicting leak has surfaced, which states that the Nokia E1 will sport either a 5.2-inch or 5.3-inch HD display. Under the hood, it will come with a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor clocked at 1.4 GHz coupled with an Adreno 308 GPU to handle graphics. Storage wise, the device is said to come with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. For optics, it is expected to pack a 13-megapixel camera on its rear, and a 5-megapixel on its front. Android 7.0 Nougat is also expected to ship with this smartphone.
Reports have mentioned that HMD Global is expected to release either 6 or 7 Nokia branded devices this year including a tablet and a host of smartphones. The Nokia E1 in particular, is expected to be released during the first quarter of 2017 and rumors have suggested that the device will be priced around $150, placing it in the budget to mid-range segment of the smartphone market. The Nokia D1 is also expected to be announced in the first quarter of 2017, and could be announced alongside the Nokia E1 and quite possible, at MWC 2017.
