Google and LG are set to reveal two new smartwatches on Feb. 9 along with the launch of Android Wear 2.0. This is the latest information coming out of a new report from Evan Blass (aka @evleaks) and VentureBeat which credits seen marketing materials on the matter. According to the details, the two smartwatches will be known as the ‘LG Watch Sport’ and the ‘LG Watch Style’. Following the launch of the two smartwatches on Feb 9, they will reportedly go on sale the very next day (Feb. 10) in the US followed by a gradual availability rolling out to other regions throughout February and March.
In terms of the differences between the two smartwatches, the report explains that the Watch Sport will be the more premium and the thicker of the two smartwatches. The Watch Sport will come with a round 1.38-inch display which makes use of a 480 x 480 resolution. Along with 768MB RAM, 4GB storage, a 430 mAh battery and an IP68 dust and waterproof certification. In contrast, the LG Watch Style will come with a 1.2-inch display with a 360 x 360 resolution. Along with 512MB RAM, 4GB storage, a 240 mAh battery and an IP67 dust and waterproof certification. The Watch Sport case will measure 14.2-millimeters in thickness and will be available in dark blue and titanium colors. While the Watch Style will only measure 10.8-millimeters and will be available in rose gold, silver and titanium colors. In addition, the Watch Style will also make use of ‘swappable straps’, while the Watch Sport will include a heart rate sensor and NFC support – which means the Watch Sport (and not the Style) will be able to support Android Pay.
Those differences aside, both smartwatches are expected to come packing Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity, although the Watch Sport is also expected to make use of 3G and LTE cellular connectivity. While both smartwatches are also expected to make use of a rotatable crown button to assist with on-screen navigation. Not forgetting of course, both watches are expected to come running on Android Wear 2.0. While the availability of the two new smartwatches will commence from early February, it is also expected that they both will be shown off at MWC 2017, which is set to take place towards the very tail end of February, with both devices being ‘prominently’ displayed at LG’s MWC 2017 booth.
