Android Wear 2.0 will, reportedly, land on February 9th. This information comes from @evleaks, a well-known tipster. Android Wear 2.0 was supposed to arrive last year, but Google had delayed its release, and we’ve seen quite a few reports regarding Android Wear 2.0 in the last couple of months. In any case, it seems like the wait will soon be over, at least if @evleaks’ information is accurate.
Google had revealed some Android Wear 2.0 info back in December when it shared some images of what upcoming Android Wear 2.0 apps. The company shared images of Foursquare, Lifesum and Glide for Android Wear 2.0. The update itself will bring a ton of new features to the platform, and will make the whole OS far more usable overall, as it will make it far more productive. In addition to giving us a sneak peak at some apps for Android Wear 2.0, Google also confirmed which smartwatches will get Android Wear 2.0 in 2017. You can check out the article to see what watches exactly will get the update, but it seems like quite a few of them will be updated to Android Wear 2.0, except the first-gen smartwatches, which means that the Moto 360 (1st-gen), the LG G Watch, the Samsung Gear Live and the ASUS ZenWatch will not be getting the Android Wear 2.0 update.
Android Wear was originally released back in March 2014, and it has been pre-installed on a number of smartwatches to date. Truth be told, we haven’t really seen many Android Wear-powered smartwatches released last year, though manufacturers are probably waiting for Android Wear 2.0 to become available in order to start releasing new smartwatches. Another reason might be the fact that smartwatches are not exactly as popular as it was expected, but Google is hoping that the new update will be able to change things around, or at least boost smartwatch sales. It is also worth mentioning that Google had been releasing Android Wear 2.0 Developer Previews for quite some time now, so we know what to expect, more or less.
