A new report just surfaced claiming that a new BlackBerry smartphone is on the way. This information comes from Roland Quandt, who claims that the company plans to introduce a new smartphone fueled by the Snapdragon 425 64-bit quad-core processor clocked at 1.4GHz, though despite the fact it will be fueled by Qualcomm’s entry-level SoC, this smartphone is going to sport really nice internals, at least if the source is to be believed.
According to the source, this smartphone will sport a 5.5-inch 720p (1280 x 720) display, along with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of native storage. As far as its cameras are concerned, you can expect to see a 13-megapixel snapper on the back of this device, and an 8-megapixel camera will be placed on its front side. Two SIM card slots are also expected to be included here, and the same goes for a 3,000mAh battery as well, which will probably not going to be removable. The source also mentions that this phone’s codename is ‘BBC100-1’, which doesn’t exactly say a lot. That is all the info that was shared by Mr. Quandt, and all we can do at this point is wait and see when will this phone get announced.
It is possible that BlackBerry plans to unveil this smartphone during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, but we’re not so sure that will happen. Another thing worth mentioning here is the fact that this phone will almost certainly be fueled by Android, and it remains to be seen if it will ship with Android 6.0 Marshmallow or Android 7.0 Nougat. In any case, you’ll get a rather stock variant of Android here, though BlackBerry will include some of its own features and apps on top of it, like the BlackBerry Hub, for example. It is still unknown whether this phone will come with a physical QWERTY keyboard or not, it remains to be seen what happens. Do keep in mind that this is not the upcoming BlackBerry Mercury which was partially shown off during CES 2017, this is a completely new device, which is something Ronald Quandt also mentioned on Twitter while responding to questions.
