Rumor: Xiaomi Mi 6 To Become China's First SD835 Flagship

The Snapdragon 835 flagship SoC got announced recently by Qualcomm at CES 2017, along with all the details related to it, and it seems like the Xiaomi Mi 6 might be one of the first smartphones to be fueled by this processor. As it’s the case year after year, many flagship smartphones will be powered by Qualcomm’s flagship SoC this year, and chances are that the Xiaomi Mi 6 will be amongst them. Well, according to an industry insider, the Xiaomi Mi 6 will be the first Chinese flagship to carry this processor.

Samsung, ASUS and Xiaomi had been mentioned as contenders to release the first Snapdragon 835-powered smartphone this year, and as things are looking at the moment, ASUS will probably cross the finish line first, as the company is reportedly planning to unveil such a smartphone at CES 2017 which is currently ongoing. The question is when will ASUS’ new flagship become available, though, some other OEM could trump them when it comes to availability. ASUS is, however, a Taiwanese company, so that would not be a Chinese flagship, technically, so the Xiaomi Mi 6 rumor is still rather believable. As far as Samsung is concerned, the company is expected to introduce the Galaxy S8 in the first half of this year, February, March and April have been mentioned as the possible release timeframes, so it remains to be seen when exactly will Samsung introduce their flagship.

The unnamed industry insider is not the first to mention that the Xiaomi Mi 6 could be the first Snapdragon 835-powered Chinese flagship, an industry analyst, Kevin Wang, did the same thing quite recently. All in all, this rumor might as well be true, as Xiaomi is expected to unveil the Xiaomi Mi 6 during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. We still don’t have all that much info when it comes to the Xiaomi Mi 6, but rumors are claiming that it will essentially be a smaller version of the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 which was announced a couple of months ago, and if that is true, you can expect it to sport a curved display, and a home button below the display. The Xiaomi Mi 6 will probably sport a rather compact display, 5.1 or 5.2 inches big maybe, and we do expect it to ship with 4GB / 6GB of RAM.
