Samsung is said to be testing the Galaxy S8 on Android 7.0 Nougat alongside the Galaxy S8 Plus, as a new leaked image of the two devices which are set to be Samsung’s next flagship phones has shown up in what looks like the partial view of a document that details testing of Samsung devices. The leaked image doesn’t really give out much information although it does mention the model numbers for each device, which are listed as SM-G950U and SM-G955U, as well as the fact that both devices are running on Android 7.0
It’s likely not much of a shock that Samsung’s 2017 flagship series device is coming with the latest version of Android software, as other flagship devices this year from bigger OEMs will be doing the same. The Galaxy S8 has recently been rumored to be announced on March 29th, which would be a little over a month after Samsung announced the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge last year. While the date of March 29th has not been confirmed, Samsung will not be unveiling the two new phones at Mobile World Congress as the company’s Mobile Chief DJ Koh has confirmed at least that much which means it’s likely happening at a later date at Samsung’s own even. With an unveiling happening later this year, it stands to reason that Samsung could potentially launch the device later as well.
Aside from the devices already appearing to be in testing running on Android 7.0 Nougat software, both the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus are rumored to come with no physical home button this time around, and Samsung has mentioned that they will come with a smart A.I.-based assistant referred to as Bixby. The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus are also rumored to come with an almost bezel-less display, as well as an 8-megapixel front-facing camera with autofocus, and of course, bigger screens, Samsung Pay Mini, and a better battery, which is one particular aspect of the device that Samsung is likely to be paying specially close attention to given the nature of the Galaxy Note 7 last Fall. While the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus are sure to get the bump to Android 7.1 Nougat at some point, the phones appear to be launching with Android 7.0 since this seems to be what Samsung is currently testing.
