Samsung have officially revealed the new Galaxy C7 Pro smartphone for the Chinese market. We had seen a number of leaks of the device and had a very good idea of the specification, size and even availability, and there were relatively few surprises in the provided marketing material. The device is based around a 5.7-inch FHD, or 1080p, resolution Super AMOLED panel. Samsung is using the Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 System-on-Chip backed up by 4GB of RAM with 64GB of local storage, which is backed up by a microSD card slot that can handle at least 256GB memory cards. It is only 7mm thin despite utilizing a heat pipe to cool the chipset and is built of metal, featuring an ultra-fine sandblasting finish and what Samsung are calling a Micro-Slot Antenna arrangement. There are 16-megapixel front and rear cameras, a 3,300 mAh battery and the device will ship with Android 6.0 Marshmallow, rather than the latest version of Android, Nougat. As such, the device is very much a mid-range smartphone, which is expected to cost around 2,800 Yuan (approximately $400) when it goes on sale before the end of the month. The Galaxy C7 Pro will be available in Arctic Blue, Rose Gold and Maple Leaf Gold colors.
Samsung’s marketing literature highlights a number of the Galaxy C7 Pro’s features, including its photography skills with two 16-megapixel front and rear cameras. The device also comes with a self timer, floating shutter and integrated photo editing. The device’s chipset is constructed on a 14nm process size, which should give it the advantage of high efficiency and low heat production but despite this, Samsung have given the Galaxy C7 Pro an internal heat pipe cooling system, described as being similar to “equipping a computer with a highly efficient, water-cooled radiator.” Naturally, the Galaxy C7 Pro supports and includes Samsung’s mobile payment service, Samsung Pay, out of the box. Finally, Samsung have bundled their Enhanced Calculator onto the Galaxy C7 Pro, which includes features such as unit conversion.
The Galaxy C7 Pro has the makings of being a solid mid-range device from Samsung, the world’s largest Android device manufacturer. The high efficiency chipset and plentiful RAM should provide customers with a smooth experience. Although it ships with Android 6.0 Marshmallow which is likely to be a disappointment to some consumers, there’s no indication that it won’t be updated to Android 7.0 Nougat at some point in the future.
