Sony-Branded Smartphone Leaks, Is It The 2nd-Gen Xperia XA?

A new Sony-branded smartphone has just surfaced, and it could be a successor to the Sony Xperia XA. The Sony Xperia XA was introduced back in February last year alongside the Sony Xperia X and Sony Xperia X Performance. Well, the device that just leaked actually resembles the Sony Xperia XA quite a bit, which leads us to believe that this could be its successor. This leak actually comes from Taiwan, and it’s not the first such leak that we’ve seen, the alleged Xperia XA 2 aka Xperia XA 2nd-gen surfaced about a month ago, read on.

As you can see, the device that leaked in the provided renders does resemble the Xperia XA, the shape of this device is easily recognizable, and this device will sport slim side bezels it seems. Its display will be ever-so-slightly curved, or at least it seems like it, and the Type-C port is placed on the bottom of the device, and it replaces the microUSB port that was available on the first-gen Xperia XA. Unfortunately, we don’t really get to see the whole device despite the fact three images surfaced, so we’re not sure whether the fingerprint scanner will be placed on the back of the device. Now, we cannot confirm this is a successor to the Xperia XA, but it surely looks like it, and if Sony intends to keep to their release schedule, this smartphone could launch during the company’s MWC 2017 press conference.

The original Sony Xperia XA is a budget device, it sports a 5-inch 720p (1280 x 720) display, along with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable internal storage. The phone is fueled by the Helio P10 64-bit octa-core processor, and a 2,300mAh battery comes with the device as well. The 13-megapixel snapper is placed on the back of the Xperia XA, and an 8-megapixel shooter can be found on the device’s front side. We still don’t know what specs to expect on the Xperia XA, but it is possible that Sony intends to keep a 5-inch display on this phone, while we might see an upgrade to the Helio P20 SoC this time around. Android 7.0 Nougat will probably come pre-installed on the Xperia XA 2 (or whatever Sony chooses to name this smartphone), with the company’s UI on top of it, of course.
