Sony India announced the release of the Sony XAV-AX100 in-car infotainment system on Monday. The system is priced at Rs. 26,990, or around $397 at today’s conversion rate. The device is available in black and can be acquired through car showrooms and accessory shops in India. It’s worth noting that although the system supports both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay out of the box, the latter is not yet available for purchase in India.
The Sony XAV-AX100 was originally unveiled last August and was released in the United States through Amazon in December, priced at $499. Sony has now brought its in-car infotainment system to the Indian market where the product is around $100 cheaper. The device in question brings the convenience of voice controls to smartphone users that are holding the wheel and is equipped with a 6.4-inch TFT Active Matrix LCD touchscreen featuring a resolution of 800 by 480 pixels. In addition to that, the Sony XAV-AX100 is also capable of recognizing gesture commands and is equipped with a USB port. The device supports rear camera input along with parking controls. Regarding specs, the Sony XAV-AX100 features a 55-watt Dynamic Reality Amp 2 with 3 pre-out connectivity allowing it to connect to additional speakers and amplifiers, as well as a sub-out and a 10-band graphic equalizer. Other features worth mentioning include EXTRA BASS boasting clear sound with deep bass at any volume level, and the so-called Dynamic Stage Organizer promising improved audio quality for in-car speakers mounted at the front. In overall, the system measures 17.8 x 10 x 16 cm and weighs 1.08 kg.
The Sony XAV-AX100 features Bluetooth connectivity with support for Bluetooth Profiles HFP 1.6, A2DP 1.2, AVRCP 1.4, and PBAP 1.1. Other related functionalities include a speed dial and a log of recent phone calls. Although the head unit is equipped with a touchscreen and voice controls powered by Android Auto, drivers also have a set of physical buttons at their disposal for a more tactile way of controlling the unit without losing sight of the road.
