ZTE has announced that it’s pushing back the Android Nougat update for its current flagship device, the Axon 7. ZTE Germany made the initial announcement regarding the delay on its official Facebook page. Android Nougat for Axon 7 is currently in beta, but according to ZTE, the software is still not up to their expectations in terms of its quality so the update will be delayed.
However, ZTE assured all Axon 7 users that the Android Nougat update will be pushed out by the end of the first quarter of this year. On top of that, ZTE Germany is planning to double the number of beta testers it currently has in the country in order to speed up the testing process. It should be noted that spaces are very limited, and at the time ZTE announced the delay, there were only 20 seats available for owners of the Axon 7. If you reside in Germany and own the Axon 7, you are eligible to participate in the program. From there, click on the link at the bottom of the Facebook post and register an account on the ZTE forums. Applicants will then undergo an internal selection process conducted by the company.
Back in November of 2016, ZTE Germany reported that the Axon 7 will be receiving the jump to Android Nougat in January. Seeing how ZTE previously said the Nougat update for the Axon 7 will include Daydream support, the device will likely be updated directly to Android 7.1.1 Nougat. As for the phone itself, the Axon 7 is a premium flagship phone made by the Chinese consumer electronics manufacturer, and the device has previously received praise for boasting premium specs and an affordable price tag. It features a 5.5-inch QHD AMOLED display and is powered by the Snapdragon 820 processor coupled with the Adreno 530 GPU for rendering graphics. Memory-wise, it comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage which can be expanded by up to 256GB via a microSD card. For optics, it packs a 20-megapixel ISO-Cell sensor on its rear with phase detection autofocus (PDAF), OIS, and EIS. On the front, an 8-megapixel shooter can be found. The hardware is fueled by a 3,250mAh battery with support for Quick Charge 3.0. The Axon 7 comes with dual front-facing speakers and runs Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out of the box.
