AccuWeather is now available on devices running Android Wear 2.0. The standalone app compatible with the latest version of Google’s operating system for wearables started rolling out on Wednesday. Unlike the original AccuWeather companion app for Android Wear devices, the new variant of the service can work even without a smartphone and boasts a broader range of features. The app is now capable of displaying hourly and daily forecasts for multiple locations and can inform you about temperatures in both Celsius and Fahrenheit, in addition to supporting different time and date formats. For added context, the original AccuWeather companion app for Android Wear devices could show current conditions and only supported temperature forecasts for a few hours in advance. However, the new and improved app is much more capable and even comes packed with a custom watch face, in addition to also being compatible with other watch faces. So, if you happen to own a device running Android Wear 2.0, you should already be able to download the latest version of AccuWeather directly to your smartwatch by visiting the Google Play Store. As expected, the app is available for download free of charge. Naturally, given how the latest iteration of Google’s operating system for wearables is currently only available on a few devices, it may be a while before the new and improved version of AccuWeather for smartwatches makes it way to a significant number of users. If you happen to be waiting for your update to Android Wear 2.0 or your device simply isn’t getting the update at all, note that the original AccuWeather companion app still works just fine. While some Android Wear developers like Lyft pulled their original offerings as they started working on standalone apps for Android Wear 2.0, AccuWeather decided to continue offering its original product, regardless of how limited it may be.
AccuWeather is the latest popular service that made its way to Android Wear 2.0 after the likes of Telegram and Uber did the same earlier this month. As the new iteration of Android Wear rolls out to more devices, new apps are expected to follow suit.
