Amazon’s Alexa-enabled Fire TV Stick is coming to the United Kingdom and will soon be available for purchase for £39.99, which amounts to approximately $49.99. Amazon is currently offering pre-orders for the device and says that it will start shipping the latest iteration of its Fire TV Stick on April 6. Alternatively, you can simply wait for a few weeks and buy the device from a brick-and-mortar store once it actually hits the market. The new Fire TV Stick TV will be sold in the United Kingdom by numerous outlets including Argos, Maplin, Tesco, Dixons Carphone, and Tesco. The £40 price tag is a bit more expensive than the $39.99 consumers in the United States have to pay to get their hands on the latest iteration of the Fire TV Stick, but the small price difference isn’t surprising and this device is still an affordable option for people looking for a streaming hub.
The new Fire TV Stick was originally unveiled by Amazon back in September before launching in the United States in October. The main selling point of the device is its remote control that features a microphone and allows users to interact with Alexa, Amazon’s artificial intelligence (AI) assistant. Apart from telling Alexa to search for content on your Fire TV Stick, owners of the device also have access to Alexa skills, meaning Amazon’s latest product is capable of doing much more than simply playing multimedia content on command. For example, Alexa can be told to order an Uber or a Lyft or asked about the latest deals for Amazon Prime subscribers. Kayak account integration allows the assistant to help you plan your trip while the AI can also provide you with all kinds of useful information like news, stock prices, and board game rules.
While the new Fire TV Stick looks similar to its predecessor, the device is actually considerably more powerful than Amazon’s previous offering as it features a quad-core processor that Amazon claims makes the device 30-percent faster than its older counterpart powered by the dual-core Broadcom Capri CPU. Other than that, the new Fire TV Stick ships with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage.
