T-Mobile’s variants of the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge are now receiving beta Android 7.0 Nougat. However, only the T-Mobile variants which were part of the Galaxy Beta Program are receiving the update. So, if you own a Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 Edge from T-Mobile, and were part of the Galaxy Beta Program, you should be receiving a notification prompting you to install the Android 7.0 Nougat update.
The update which comes with the version number G930TUVU4BQB1, is 115.86MB in size, which is pretty small as most Beta users already have most Nougat features, though this is the stable build. Those who weren’t part of the Galaxy Beta Program will receive a much larger update in the future, of course. According to the changelog, the update brings along quite a number of new features to the Galaxy S7 lineup on the T-Mobile network. This includes improved usability of the notification shade and quick settings button. Also, the settings menu has been improved, along with the Always On Display (AOD) feature, whereby users may now tap on a notification on the AOD and it will launch the notification. Samsung Pass has been included in the update as well, and according to Samsung, it is an ’identity management as-a-service’. It should also be noted that the February 2017 security patch is not included in the update package, though the unlocked versions of the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, have already begun receiving the security patch for this month, a few days back.
Samsung initially began the Android 7.0 Nougat rollout back in January, but it is taking quite some time for the South Korean company to complete the rollout for the unlocked Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge. It has also been confirmed by a Samsung customer service agent, that certain regions won’t be receiving the update in the first quarter of the year, instead, the rollout in those regions will only commence in the second quarter. However, Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge users with a T-Mobile variant, may expect to receive the jump to Android 7.0 Nougat starting from February 24th, though this hasn’t been confirmed by T-Mobile yet.
